High Holy Days 2024
High Holy Days at Congregation Beth Israel - 2024
RE-ENGAGE! RETURN! REDEDICATE!
Beginning on Rosh Chodesh Elul (September 4) the blasts of the shofar herald the new year. Each day calls to the task of looking inward as we prepare to do teshuvah – to repent, to return, and to make positive changes. Our services during these Days of Awe (Yamim Nora’im) will gather the entire community together to engage with this important spiritual work.
We want to invite you to participate in this year’s High Holiday services. The schedule below, with a printable version on the left, lists the dates and times of events during this season of repentance, reflection, and celebration. All of our services will be held in person in our sanctuary and simultaneously streamed online via Zoom (unless otherwise noted). If you are feeling sick, we encourage you to stay home and participate in our services virtually.
Machzorim for Zoom services: We are happy to provide a Machzor (High Holy Days prayerbook) for those wanting to follow along at home. Please email the office to coordinate pickup or delivery by our T'micha (support) committee.
Here are some highlights about our observances of the Days of Awe this year.
- This year's Welcome Back Event (Friday, September 13) begins with a Tot Shabbat family gathering at 5:45 pm. A community-wide potluck dinner will be held at 6:30 pm, hosted by the membership committee. At 7:30 pm, our BI Rabbis will lead Shabbat services.
- On Selichot (Saturday, September 28), we will gather together for services and conversation as we prepare for the High Holy Days. We will also have some contemplative moments during the service to change the synagogue vestments.
- Services for Rosh Hashanah (beginning the evening of Wednesday, October 2) and Yom Kippur (beginning the evening of Friday, October 11) will be held in the sanctuary and live-streamed simultaneously on Zoom.
- Following services at Beth Israel, a Tashlich and shofar service will be held at Smedley Park on Rosh Hashanah Day 1 (Thursday, October 3).
- Then, we will move into the festivals of Sukkot and Simchat Torah, and all of their joyous events!
Every year, Congregation Beth Israel invites non-members to share in the observance of the High Holy Days. We are an active participatory congregation. Whether you're joining us for the first time or the tenth, come enjoy our warm and friendly congregation. We look forward to welcoming you! If you'd like to join us for any of our events, please click the button below and fill out the registration form. This form will also allow you to make a holiday offering to Beth Israel, if you'd like to do so.
