BI's Gardens and Outdoor Spaces
BI's Gardens and Outdoor Spaces
Beth Israel has a number of outdoor spaces that we maintain and tend to on our property, and these have served a variety of uses. Our front lawn supports our overflow parking during high holidays and doubles as a soccer field during Hebrew school! We have a number of trees that we maintain on our property - including two young willow trees that will hopefully provide willow branches for our Sukkot needs in the coming years. We have a beautifully maintained meditation bench and garden in the back area of our parking lot, and most recently, in 2022, we built three raised-bed vegetable gardens where we have been growing vegetables that we have been delivering to the Media Food Bank throughout the growing season. In 2023, thanks to support from the Whole Kids Foundation, we added an additional fourth raised-bed, along with a drip irrigation system, and hope to soon add a pollinator garden as well. Our future plans will involve continuing to explore expanding our tree cover, along with potentially expanding our gardening capacity.
