2019 MLK Day of Service at Beth Israel
2019 MLK Day of Service at Beth Israel
On January 21st, Martin Luther King Day, the Social Action Committee hosted our Hats for Hope knitting project as well as creating finger puppets, plus writing postcards to our local, state and federal politicians about timely issues. About 21 people participated; 4 of them were volunteers who found us on the MLKday.org site. One young high school student finished a baby hat that day. Many took projects home to finish and possibly do more hats. Our amazing BI member, Merdie Gilmore, donated a baker's dozen of hats. Hats will be donated to various Delaware County-area organizations for those in need.
Thank you to all who participated, and especially our coordinators/teachers Judy Kinman and Joyce Romoff. A special thank you to Carol Briselli for coordinating the postcard writing campaign and Ala Hamilton-Day for picking up our t-shirts, and various people who donated supplies. Just a reminder that this is a year round project, so keep those hooks and needles going. Also, donations of Knitting needles (8, 9), crochet hooks (3, 4), circular looms and contributions of worsted-weight yarn are always welcome. Please contact Judy Kinman <kinman@mail.med.upenn.edu>;)or Elaine Wasekanes to collect your donations.
