Rabbi Linda Potemken
Rabbi Linda Potemken
Rabbi Linda Potemken was welcomed as our rabbi and spiritual leader in the summer of 1997. She was born and raised in Baltimore, where her family was affiliated with a Conservative synagogue. She discovered Reconstructionism in her early 20's and has been a committed Reconstructionist ever since.
She is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Hahnemann University and The Reconstructionist Rabbinical College, where she has served as adjunct faculty, teaching or co-teaching a variety of classes. Rabbi Linda has served as a leader in the Reconstructionist movement and in the Philadelphia area rabbinate. She has served on the Board and Executive Board of the Reconstructionist Rabbinical Association and on the Executive Board of the Philadelphia Board of Rabbis. She has been the Reconstructionist columnist for the Philadelphia Jewish Exponent, writing a Torah commentary every month. She continues to participate in Media area interfaith clergy gatherings, to act as a bridge to the wider Media faith-based communities.
Rabbi Potemken has a background in counseling, organizational development, meditation, spiritual direction, theater and social action. She is passionate about building a sacred community where all can find their place, where all can grow and contribute; where members work to develop and deepen a relationship to Judaism through learning and practice, where members take good care of one another and work together to add healing, peace and justice to the world.
She is the proud mother of a wonderful daughter who continues to be one of her finest teachers.
