Outdoor Shabbat Services

Friday, June 18, 2021 8 Tammuz 5781

7:30 PM - 9:30 PM
Shalom, chaverim!

It is with great excitement that we announce the first of what we hope will be many Shabbat services to be held IN PERSON at BI in the months and years ahead. With thanks to BI’s COVID committee and to the rabbis for their guidance and encouragement, our first in person Shabbat service in a LONG time will be held on Friday evening, June 18, beginning (as usual) at 7:30 p.m., in the area around the back parking lot at BI. Because we are still feeling our way back to a post-pandemic normalcy, however, caution dictates that we conduct this service with some special conditions:

  • First, and as noted above, the service will be held outdoors (unless it’s rained out, in which case we’ll just conduct the service by Zoom).
  • Attendance will be limited to the first 45 individuals to register via this signup genius link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0F4AACA72CA2F58-june. NOTE: you will need to register INDIVIDUALLY, and not by household. In other words, do a signup for each person planning to attend. If you have trouble handling registration by signup genius, please email Larry Hamermesh for assistance.
  • At the service on June 18:
    • Masks will still be required
    • Social distancing will be maintained - at least 6 feet from non-“pod” members (if you come as part of a “pod,” you can rearrange chairs to sit closer together with your fellow pod members).
    • Singing will occur but will be limited to singing softly or humming while masked.
    • Volunteers will be requested to help return chairs and siddurim to the building after services.
    • There will be no shared food or drink, sorry.
    • Bathrooms will be accessible but limited to one person at a time.
We hope to have more services like this (in person, outdoors) as the summer progresses. In particular, we are at least tentatively planning to have outdoor in person Shabbat services on Saturday, July 10 and Friday, July 23. Our experience with these services will inform how often we have them in the future and whether we can relax some of the limitations prescribed above.

Thanks, and we look forward to seeing you in person again!
