Social Action
Social Action
We are committed to Tikkun Olam, or “Repair of the World.” The Social Action Committee engages the entire Beth Israel community in activities that include consulting with B’nai Mitzvah families about Tikkun Olam projects, academic tutoring in Chester, annual clothing drives; participation in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service; preparing and serving meals to the homeless; our unique "A Better Start for Babies" drives to donate needs to newborns and parents at ChesPenn, special Tikkun Olam speakers at Shabbat services; food drives supporting local food banks, working with Hebrew School students to prepare lunches for needy children, advocating for gun control and victims’ rights; advocating for immigrants, screening films several times a year on Jewish and social justice themes, and presenting our Friend of the Community Award. The committee meets monthly. Anyone in the congregation is welcome to join. For more information, go to https://www.bethisraelmedia.org/engage/social-action/social-action-news or email John Greenstine, committee chairperson. |
