High Holy Days 2020

Beginning on Rosh Chodesh Elul (August 20) the blasts of the shofar will herald the new year and call us to the task of looking inward as we prepare to do teshuvah – to repent, to return, to make positive change. Our services during these Days of Awe (Yamim Nora’im) gather the entire community together to engage with this important spiritual work.

This year that gathering is no ordinary occasion. Based on advice from our members who are doctors, we have made a values‐based decision to hold most of our High Holy Days gatherings on digital platforms this year to ensure safe participation for all. This decision led us to reconstruct our services and their schedule, and will call upon all of us to participate in services in new and, we hope, satisfying ways.

Rabbi Linda and Rabbi Nathan are working with the Religious Practice Committee to create meaningful, shorter services for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. We are also going to take advantage of the gifts of our Jewish tradition and use the preparatory month before Rosh Hashanah (Elul), along with the High Holy Days month of Tishrei, to bring multiple, brief offerings to encourage you to engage with the work of the season through music, liturgy, poetry and other teachings. Please check the links below for the schedule, along with other helpful information.

Finally, and as always, we will want to involve as many people as possible in our High Holy Days offerings. Please let us know if you are interested in participating in some way.

Be well.
