High Holy Days 2020

Based on advice from our members who are doctors, we have made a values‐based decision to hold most of our High Holy Days gatherings on digital platforms this year to ensure safe participation for all. Rabbi Linda and Rabbi Nathan are working with the Religious Practice Committee to create meaningful, shorter services for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. We are also going to take advantage of the gifts of our Jewish tradition and use the preparatory month before Rosh Hashanah (Elul), along with the High Holy Days month of Tishrei, to bring multiple, brief offerings to encourage you to engage with the work of the season through music, liturgy, poetry and other teachings. In this season, we need to wake up, hence the shofar, and also to examine our lives to see how we want to improve in the new year. Please watch for more detailed information and a schedule in the August and/or September Israelight, in addition to our usual High Holy Days snail mailing, website and emails.

A REQUEST

At this time, It would be really helpful to hear from folks about what they love about, or get the most out of, our High Holy Days events, so we can explore ways to bring those aspects to the community. Because High Holy Days services will be offered virtually for many of our gatherings, please also share some of the pros and cons you are noticing in terms of using Zoom and other virtual platforms. As always, we welcome your comments and suggestions. Please send them to either or both of us.

Finally, and as always, we will want to involve as many people as possible in our High Holy Days offerings. Please let us know if you are interested in participating in some way.

Be well.
